Okara is located at 127 KM south-west of Lahore on national highway (G.T.Road) and on Lahore Karachi main railway line. Its approximate height above sea level is 50 meters.

Sub-division Renalakhurd

Renalakhurd is a growing city of Okara District in the north east of the Punjab province of Pakistan. The city is the headquarters of Renala Khurd Tehsil - an administrative subdivision of the district. Its approximate height above sea level is about 570 feet (170 m). It is located 10 km from the district capital Okara city towards south-west of Lahore on national highway (GT Road)It is mainly known for a famous fruit products company. At Renala Khurd, one may visit still operational, Renala Hydro Power Station, situated on Canal Loar-Bari-Doo-Aab. Its capacity is 1 MW.A civil engineer and leading philanthropist of his time, established Renala Hydral Power Station in 1925. In 1873, after a brief Service in Punjab P.W.D, he devoted himself to practical farming. A part of Renalakhurd is naturally deprived of the underground sweet water. People in this part rely on canals as the main source of irrigation, as tube -wells, unlike other parts of the district, only pour out salty water which nothing but spoils the land.

    Infrastructure

    Okara have all the basic physical and organizational structures, services and facilities needed and necessary in a city. There are two stadiums of Okara district, in which one of them includes Football ground, Basketball court and Swimming pool for Sports. A new international hockey stadium is being constructed in Renala khurd Tehsil of Okara, which would be completed by 2013. This stadium will develop a strong infrastructure for hockey in the country.
    There are also many small and considerable big parks for general public. The three main recreational parks are Ladies Park, Bagh-e-Jinnah and District Park.
    Educational institutes include Education University, Cadet College, and Govt. College for Boy, two Govt. Colleges for Women. There are also many privately owned colleges and schools, which are nationally recognized, well built, big and their standard of education is also high as compared nationally. The District Public School and College, Okara (DPSC Okara) is a well known institute in the City, province and also the Country. These institutes include Modern science and computer labs, libraries, playgrounds and canteens.
    There are various numerous public & private hospitals and clinics providing the health services. The popular and well equipped hospitals are District Govt. hospital, Shareef surgical hospital and C.M.H Okara Cantt. There is also a Social welfare health society which is being operated under the Govt. of Punjab. Every hospital has more than two ambulances. Located in the village of Rehmpur the Rosary Christian Hospital also provides medical services to Okara and surrounding areas.
    The 1122 Rescue Govt. organization is also offering their services in Okara city. There is also a separated Fire station, located in the centre of city, which have several old and also latest fire engines for safety services.
    Okara also have a vast Railway station, which contain several platforms, where almost every train going from Islamabad to Karachi makes stop. There are two railway underpasses and one flyover which help in smooth flow of traffic.

    Livestock

    Okara is also famous for its cattle breed known as Sahiwal and a water buffalo breed known as Nili-Ravi. It is very rich in livestock population and production. The Livestock Production Research Institute Bahadar Nagar Farm is a very large Government farm near Okara city. The farm has large number of cows, buffalos, bulls (for reproduction), goats and sheep.

    languages

    As Okara is in the mid of province Punjab therefore here all types of people lived. So they speak different languages. Most of them who live in Okara city, they speaks Urdu but the people who lived in villages and other sub divisions of Okara are commonly speaks Punjabi. As Okara is in mid of Punjab therefore in some areas the Punjabi language has a little bit reflect Saraiki because they are near to Multan. Pathans are also living in Okara they use Urdu for communications. So over all Punjabi is mostly used in Okara. But in institution Urdu is used.

    Aggriculture

    Okara District is famous for its fertile lands, peaceful natural environment and green fields of potato, tomato, sugarcane, wheat, rice and maize crops. Oranges and Mangoes orchards are famous. Fertility of soil of Okara can be imagined by that there three crops are found in a year. Agriculture in Okara is progressing day by day. As it is developing, so for the sake of getting land for the homes, the agricultural lands are used now a day.

    History

    Okara is named after a local tree "OKAAN" To facitate people by bringing administration to their door steps, Sahiwal District was bifurcated and its sub-division Okara emerged as Headquarter o a new District on 1st of July 1982 with Okara, Renala Khurd & Depalpur as its sub-divisions ) tehsils.
    Okara City was established in nineteenth Century. While the towns of Okara are a part of ancient history. According to a tradition there were clumps of “OKAAN” Trees in this place. After the name of these OKAAN trees this place was known as Okara. This area of land was raided by European and the middle Asian invaders just because it was situated in the ways of those areas which were rich, advanced and geographically politically, and militarily central cities of the sub continent, It was only because of those brave and freedom fighters who stopped Alexandar the Great to advance in this area and he had to go back defeated from this area of land. The histoty of this area is 3000 B.C. old. This area of land remained war land for Turks, Arabs, Persians, Lodhies, Tugliqs, Mangola, Mughal Emperors, Merhattas, Sikhs and Hindus. This area was also ruled over by Rajpoots till 1770. In 1849, the British occupied this area. In the Freedom Fight of 1857, The people of this area resisted against the British. Rai Ahmad Khan Kharil including Mehr Murad Fatiana and many other brave people fought against the British and defeated the British at a number of places. History speaks of these freedom fighters who were few in number and they put to death Lord Burkley and his fifty soldiers.
    When the British Govt., after defeating Sikh rulers, ruled this area in 1849.They established a new district in Pakpattan which was later on Shifted to Gogera,a town near the Ravi. When a Railway line was laid out between Multan and Lahore it was shifted to Montogornery in 1864. This area remained the part of Montgomery District. In 1215. Okara became Tehsil.It became Committee in 1939 and Municipal Committee in 1945.
    After the creation of Pakistan, Okara played a vital role for the progress of the country. In July, 1982, Okara became District consisting of two Tehsils, Depalpur, Baseerpur, Satghara, Gogera, Sherghar, Hujra, Shah Muqeem and Renala Khurd are towns of this city.The Okara district population is about 2.2 Million.
    Todays Okara is the most populated district of the Pakistan. It is an agricultural district.the people of the Okara district are haed working , honest and show dedication in their life. The people of the Okara is representing the world wide nation.Okara has been producing many honorable personalities and countless people are working aboard from this District
    Okara has many historical places and buildings .Satghara , Gogera are the famous historical places of the Okara district.It is an educational city .The Government College Okara has been producing many talented peoples among the Pakistan
    Okara local Government has been doing a lot of efforts for the development , progress and prosperity of the Okara District.
